A Marvellous Light by Freya Marske

“I am nothing like you, and yet I feel more myself with you.”
✨ Set in Edwardian England where a portion of the upper-class secretly have access to magic, this masterful debut novel is both a deeply touching m/m romance as well as a gripping thriller. ✨
Young baronet Robin Blyth is mistakenly assigned to an obscure bureaucratic job that turns out to be the role of government liaison with a secret magical society. His cold and disapproving liaison with the society, does a demonstration that not only proves to Robin that magic exists, but initiates what turns out to be a delicately unfurling romance. When Robin comes under attack by dark forces looking for a mysterious object they failed to get from his missing predecessor, Edwin becomes Robin’s reluctant protector, changing both their lives.
💖 I adored this book. It was my first m/m romance and it was fun to fall for both heroes. The plot is full of exciting danger, mystery and luxe, but it’s ultimately the slow, sweet romance that sticks with me. The story includes strong spice, but I’ve rarely read sex scenes that were so effective in moving the relationship forward. The scenes are explicit, but nearly every beat is integral to the story. 💖
