The Scholar & the Last Faerie Door by H.G. Parry

The Scholar & The Last Faerie Door for Tome

“For the last time, his eyes met mine. Just for a second, in a searing flash of dust and sunlight and the smell of old paper, we were in the Camford Library with the whole world spread before us. What are you reading? he had asked, and he had laughed as if I had meant it when I said, ‘A book.’”

πŸ§šβ€β™‚οΈ This magical adventure is everything I love about historical fantasy. πŸ§šβ€β™‚οΈ

The heroine, Clover, is talented, complicated and courageous. Thanks to the narration from her future self, she’s also profoundly self-aware, giving us an even deeper appreciation for her internal conflicts as she navigates coming of age in the aftermath of the Great War, the class divide that plays such an important role in the British society, ambition, friendship and first love.

On one level, it’s a gripping action thriller involving murderous fae and a beloved boarding school of magic with echoes of Hogwarts. On another, it’s a portal to a time in real history when the old order was breaking down and a new order being birthed, for better or worse, which makes it feel particularly resonant with the times we live in now.

πŸ’–  A must read for fans of both historical fiction and fantasy. πŸ’–
